Caroline Rance
I was born in Bromborough, Wirral, in 1975, later moving to Irby and then to Buckinghamshire. After a boring and miserable school career, I studied English and History at Keele, then launched into a series of low-flying jobs including working in an NHS complaints department, brushing out the fringes of rugs in a National Trust property and making up hanging baskets at a plant nursery.
I currently work part time as an editor for a charity focused on the Middle East, and spend the rest of the time looking after my toddler son.
Though I have always enjoyed writing, and have had a few false starts at novels, I began writing seriously in 2004. My first novel, Kill-Grief, set in Chester and Wirral in the 1750s, was published on 16 April 2009 by Picnic Publishing, and I am now writing my second book, provisionally titled For the Love of Freaks.
My main website is: www.carolinerance.co.uk
Caroline Rance's debut historical novel, Kill-Grief, set in 18th-century Chester, is out now.

Hi Caroline,
I had the pleasure of meeting you at your book signing in Waterstones, Chesham. (I was the guy who talked about bloggers turning their blogs into books). Just finished Kill-Grief and really enjoyed it. Found your blog via your website.

Hi Caroline,
What an inspiring blog you have! I have been struggling with writing an historical novel for over 10 years now and I can SO relate to your procrastination flow-chart! Nevertheless, one day I WILL get it finished… Found your blog via your Quack Doctor blog after Googling Mrs Winslow’s Soothing Syrup (we found one of these bottles tucked up under our house many years ago, and now adorns my laundry windowsill with a narrow bloom)! Glad I stumbled on your site – can’t wait to read Kill-Grief. Keep up the refreshing posts!

Thank you very much Melanie – sorry I didn’t reply earlier as I was away all weekend. Good luck with getting your novel finished – you’ll get there in the end!
